It is no surprise that Star Wars, as a franchise, is popular in video gaming right now. With the recent release of Bioware’s very highly anticipated MMORPG, Star Wars: The Old Republic, there has been a renewed interest in games from the Star Wars universe. As a change of pace, for this week’s blog I decided to take the 2006 title Empire at War and breathe new life into it with mods from other popular sci-fi franchises, video games or otherwise.
Halo: Campaign Commanders by the_Farseer While the hype surrounding Halo isn’t quite as huge as it was several years ago, Halo is still regarded as a great sci-fi FPS. The games have memorable characters and stories, and modder the_Farseer has taken the Halo universe, and transferred it over to Empire at War. Halo: Campaign Commanders one of the most popular available for Empire at War. In a sea of Halo mods, his is set apart by awesome animations, graphics, and music. If you have the expansion, Forces of Corruption, and are a Halo buff, you should check this mod out!

Halo: First Offensive by Ascendancy Studio Not surprisingly, there are a number of Halo mods available for Empire at War. Halo: First Offensive is another great mod for Forces of Corruption. Creator Ascendancy Studio has extremely high hopes for this mod, creating an original soundtrack to accompany dynamic gameplay. First Offensive allows the player to assume the role of either the UNSC or the Covenant with over 100 playable units. This expansive mod is not to be missed!

Starship Troopers: First Interstellar War by Starside R&D Typically, when people think of Starship Troopers, they think of the awesome movie of the same name. However, Starship Troopers was first released as a novel in 1959 by Robert A. Heinlein as Starship Solider. Either way, the idea is an awesome one. In his mod, Starship Troopers: First Interstellar War, creator Starside R&D brings the “bugs” to Star Wars: Empire at War.

Any one notice that the ships in the starship trooper pics look like Argon Titans?
There is one that does resemble the Argon in layout. I think it’s called the Geneva Battlecruiser in the mod. The rest appear to be based on the movie ships. Funny enough it appears Egosoft’s game modelers were influenced by the Rodger Young from the ’97 Starship Trooper movie for the Argon’s design.
I wonder if the S.O.P.A bill will effect mods like these
It should be noted that Campaign Commander is just a land only beta and still in development, HFO is just a collection of several years of no work between several mod teams that took the project over. And SST is finished with the possibility of ground one day. Also couldn’t you guys at least link there Moddb pages where most updates take place?
I need a big image version of the empire at war image from the mailer that went out today! that’s epic. it needs to be sold as a poster! “EmpireAtWarMailer.jpg” Fileplanet, can you make this available? at least for a wallpaper?

You should really learn how to use Google.
1. Open the original image from the e-mail in your browser.
2. Open Google and click Images.
3. Drag the image from the first tab onto the Google Images search.
4. Click Search and it will find visually similar images.
I did that and this is the link I came up with:

Here’s another awsome mod that I’m surprised wasn’t mentioned. “Thrawn’s Revenge”:

The mod takes the game during the events of the New Republic era and during Thrawn’s campaign. It expands the game to over a hundred planets and brings in heaps of new units and ships.
