Monday Mod: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – SkyUI

It’s terrific that that you can see every detail on all the items in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, but being a classic PC Gamer I really desire having more information on my screen and better sorting options that work well with mouse and keyboard. Bethesda haven’t provided the most optimal UI for Skyrim, but the modding community sure has answered that call with the SkyUI modification.

Note: The SkyUI modification requires the Skyrim Script Extender Utility to install and function properly. Please download before use!

SkyUI ravamps the user interface while blending in with the original style that Skyrim has. The two-panel play inventory has been changed to a single panel layout featuring icons for each category, mini-icons for each kind of item (axe, bow, etc), smaller text allowing for more information to be displayed, additional information such as item value and weight, and being able to categorize based on value, damage, etc.

All of that is included with an intuitive configuration for keyboards, support for exotic resolutions such as 5760×2160, fully customizable column layout and a full-text search through your inventory. Play Skyrim how it was meant on the computer with this mod! If you need more check out our Skyrim Mods.

“Play Skyrim how it was meant on the computer”

Really? If it was meant to be played that way wouldn’t the game have been shipped that way? Or was it cut out by the developers?

    • Anonymous says:

My guess it was cut out due to console limitations and hence the reason they made the UI look the same for *all* platforms.

    • Anonymous says:

No because they designed the game on, and for consoles and cheaply and quickly ported it to the PC without paying attention to the fact that the entire UI works only on consoles and is crap when using a mouse and keyboard.

This UI looks sweet and what Bethesda should have designed for PC.

      • Sinclair1369 says:

I agree totally with you Anon, look how many mods were NEEDED for Oblivion just to get it to run. bring on the mods!

        • Gray says:

Oblivion didnt NEED mods to run, it ran perfectly well. The mods only enhanced what was already there. I have to say though, as a pc elderscrolls player, this mod looks like a must have for skyrim. The UI in skyrim shocked me tbh because i was expecting one similar to Oblivion. It looks nice and flashy but Oblivions was better

      you stupid pumpkin.

  2. John says:

Bethesda made more than one catastrophal bad decision with Skyrim.
Basically I sometimes think they must have known what they did, they did not want Skyrim to be better on the PC than on Consoles for any absurd marketing reason or maybe license agreement.

Anyway: SkyUI is close to what I expected from the inventory UI and it is doing the job with elegance!
I’m sure there is a lot more to come from those developers, at least I hope so.

The last thing that is heavily missing in Skyrim is a static leveling and static item placement mod. The game is currently extremely UNREWARDING.

IGN are not meant to be hosting this file here. Please download it from here: http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3863

    • Jag says:

      Howdy Mardoxx,

I found this file in our public upload and thought it was a fantastic modification that deserved to be promoted. I also reached out to gamespy.com and they’ve promoted it as well. It would sadden me to see such a terrific file go away and would like to work together on keeping it here.

For now, I will edit the file description to link back to the file on the nexus site along with adding it to the blog. Please get in touch with me via email if you have any questions, comments or concerns. Thanks!

  4. Zen says:

Fileplanet/Gamespy are always stealing mods from nexus. It’s nothing new for them.

    • Sinclair1369 says:

yeah, i noticed. dont mind though cos it seems to be easier to find what i’m looking for on FP than to search through 27 fur armors on Nexus.

  5. Pooky says:

Yeah, another file stolen from the nexus.
    Quote from the readme:

You must get permission from me before you are allowed to modify my files for bug fixes and improvements.
You must get permission from me before you are allowed to use any of the assets in this file.

    • zelpher says:

U can put all u want in your mod about getting permission to use this and that but really u don’t own it anymore then i own the game. Bethesda owns it!

Tired of modders acting like they own what they made go ahead and try to sell it like u own and see what happens u so stfu plz!

      thanks

      • Anonymous says:

Bethesda owns the content that is created via the CS/GECK, but the modders own the material they created themselves. This include custom made models, textures, sounds, and dialog. All of this stuff belongs to the modder directly. Plus, regardless of who it belongs to uploading it without permission is not cool, and FilePlanet really needs to control this problem.

        • zelpher says:

bethesda supports modding thats all the permission they need…if a modder really wants to own it they would have to get a copyright on it till then they own nothing.

  6. Zen says:

This file no longer works. Skyrim has been patched/updated which means the Skyrim Script Extender Utility (on which this file relies) no longer functions. Until the Script Extender is updated, you will get error messages and severely reduced functionality if you install this (stolen) mod.

  7. Frank says:

Woohoo! I can’t wait for a 100% non-Steam install mod. I’ll run out and buy the DVD as soon as one appears!

    • zelpher says:

um u can already do that just to some more research cause i dont use steam at all to play nor did i have to install steam, no mod was required btw.

  8. john says:

    this is a classic game…

  9. mmofps says:

dont think this file is working.

  10. MsNineTailz says:

I hear alot of people saying that skyrim was made primaly for the console this i personaly think is just console users complaining like they always do about the pc elder scrolls has always been a pc franchiese and always be

  11. ronan17 says:

@MsNineTailz, considering the pc market is only a small percentage of there sales, this game would have been optimized for the console, elder scrolls may have been a pc franchise in the past but its not anymore, console sales are massive compared to the pc. And no I`am not a console users complaining, I don’t have a console, all my games are pc.

    • Ged says:

There’s no question it’s a quick and fairly dirty port from console to the PC. I think (and as a PC owner for *cough* several years this breaks my heart) the PC is ending its days a a bleeding edge games platform. Companies prefer to develop for consoles; PC games look more and more like console games with every passing year and the market’s letting them do it.

    • MsNineTailz says:

      @ronan17
I personaly think that no one actually has a qlue what there saying. How can anyone call skyrim or any game for that matter quick ports from console to pc. Somtimes i dont think people realise that all video games on console where built and designed on the PC platform so really when you look at it console games are nothing but ports to console from PC forther more The console market may be makeing the money but when you buy any game for the console your paying for the work and effort put into games by the developer and the native enviroment (PC/game engine) that it was build around so really at the end of the day its the PC making the money since it did around %50 of the workload to bring you the game in the first place. Platforms are a choice thing at the end of the day thay dont care what platform your playing there product on but rather your playing it at all in the first place. And finaly it dosen’t take long for somone with some brain power to plug in a controller into the pc and there you got a damn console and play’s no diffrently I would know since i have the game on both 360/PC and the pc is far more responsive and load time’s are by far faster but as all thing’s I guess people like to complain and compaire more rather then injoy what thay have.

  12. sas says:

I think the Skyrim Script Extender has been updated…

  13. Red Crucible says:

This file no longer works i think. Skyrim has been patched/updated which means the Skyrim Script Extender Utility no longer functions for now.

  14. Crucible says:

Am not to sure if skyrim extender as been updated, i just hope so…very cool staff…

  15. Raze says:

Yep,is working well for me now.
