Quakin’ With Quake 4 Mods

There are few video game series more prolific than the Quake series. The last installment was released in 2005, and was the fourth in the long-running series of first-person shooters. The nearly seven-year-old game is showing signs of age but these mods will refresh Quake 4, giving you a reason to revisit.

Sikkmod by Sikkpin At the risk of sounding dangerously cheesy, this Quake 4 mod is, indeed, “sikk.” Sikkpin has taken the time to re-skin Quake 4 textures, making the game look like a more current release. Enjoy staving off the Strogg, who might look a bit “prettier” than they did when you last played!

Quake 4 Evolved by Fatal Impurity Not unlike the previous mod, Quake 4 Evolved serves as a means to improve the appearance of Quake 4. This mod completely overhauls the original graphics engine used in Quake 4, adding bloom effects, secular mapping, enhanced shadows, and much more. If you thought Quake 4 was good looking when it first came out, give it a go with this awesome enhancement mod.

Quake 4: HardQore by Atomic Armadillo Entertainment I have very fond memories of playing Contra as a young girl. Contra was one of the first video games I ever touched, so it has a special place in my heart. It made very little sense to me, but I like shooting aliens and doing flips. If you enjoy side-scrolling shooters, you should give Quake 4: HardQore a go. This mod totes itself as a 2D side scroller for the next generation. The creator of this mod sums it up best, “no reloading, unlimited ammo, no thinking…just run and shoot!” I love it!

I don’t know if I would put “Classic” and Quake 4 in the same sentence. But hey. Mods are always a good thing! xP

  2. Saerain says:

I am constantly forgetting that Quake IV happened. Maybe for the best.

  3. Tbone says:

Why does it say that Quake IV is nearly five years old and was released in 2007? It’s over six years old, and was released in 2005.
