Fallout: New Vegas is a massive gaming experience that is nearly perfect. However, there is always room for improvement. This week, I present to you several mods that will help create a more seamless and immersive Fallout: New Vegas experience, ranging from creating more realistic weather conditions, to improved explosions, to the addition of more delightfully plagued monsters!
F3NV Project Reality MkI by JJC71: The Fallout: New Vegas Project Reality Mod by JJC71 is an ambitious ongoing project. This mod currently offers realistic weather patterns and dynamic lighting. This mod boasts high levels of detail, with over 25 weather patterns, dense fog, snow, acid rain, and other awesome surprises. The creator’s goal is to eventually integrate more realistic shadows into the game, and even include a feature in which gives the player character a voice. Please note that Project Reality MkI will not work with other Fallout weather mods. While the following video showcases other mods as well, please note the awesome weather effects in the background!
OFT – Operation Fixed Terrain by AWZ: When it comes to the world of Fallout, immersion plays a huge factor. Unfortunately, without help, Fallout suffers from some weird clipping issues. Whenever I see a bush clipping through the side of a building, or a tree growing out of a rock, I can’t help but cringe. Modder AWZ has gone through and painstakingly fixed all of those troublesome clipping errors. No more random holes appear, and you’ll never get caught on another invisible wall!
EVE – Essential Visual Enhancements by Wiejiesen: Explosions, lasers, blood, and flesh piles are all good things, right? Why not take these things and make them look at least 16 times cooler? This seems to be the logic behind Wiejiesen’s Essential Visual Enhancements mod for Fallout: New Vegas. EVE is another continually evolving mod, but it currently boasts improved graphics for critical hits, impacts, explosions, and much more. Check it out!
Imp’s More Complex Needs by Imp of the Perverse: If you like to take your immersion in a game to the extreme, Imp’s More Complex Needs might just be the perfect mod for you! This mod ratchets up the “real” factor in New Vegas quite a bit. With More Complex Needs, you can track your character’s caloric intake, and blood alcohol content! Hey, it’s a little neurotic, but it is awesome! With this mod, your character is subject to their circadian rhythm, and time will pass in-game while you gamble or play other mini-games.
Monster Mod by Dogtown1: For me, one of the coolest things about the Fallout universe is its deliciously decaying monsters. I mean, some of these things are just NASTY. Dogtown1′s awesome mod brings even more nastiness to the world of Fallout with 130 monstrous new additions to the game. Zombified wildcats? Check! Nasty mole rats? Check again! Alien and Terminator? Why the heck not?!
