Are you one of those three people who thought Amnesia: The Dark Descent just wasn’t scary enough? Well rest assured, my friend! I now present to you several single-player Amnesia campaigns that make the game even scarier than it already was!
Abduction by Anxt This user-created campaign puts the player in Daniel’s shoes once again. A year after his escape from Brennenburg Castle, Daniel is awoken by a loud crash in the middle of the night. Daniel is tasked with finding the cause of the disturbance, and what it means. The Amnesia community has rated this particular mod very highly, with some referring to it as one of the best custom campaigns they have played. If you are looking for a clever and terrifying continuation of Daniel’s story, give Abduction a try.
The Labyrinth by Raell Mazes are pretty scary just on their own. Take a moment to imagine a maze with Amnesia monsters in it! If that isn’t horrifying, I will eat my hat. In Raell’s acclaimed mod, “The Labyrinth,” you find yourself stuck in a maze in which something sinister seems to lurk around every corner. According to Raell, this campaign should take around 30 minutes to complete. See how long you can survive within the twisting corridors of The Labyrinth.
One Light in the Darkness by Palistov One Light in the Darkness is a custom Amnesia campaign that allows the player to *gasp* go outdoors! I know that probably isn’t what any reader cares most about, but it was definitely a selling point for me! In this campaign, you assume the role of novelist Silas Joel Farran who finds a mysterious letter. He pursues the information contained within the letter, and as you might imagine, this poor author gets a bit more than he bargained for.
To Give is to Force by DetrimentalGames If you have nerves of steel, this is the campaign for you. This cryptic mod is left very open-ended for limitless interpretations. To Give is to Force has become somewhat infamous among the Amnesia community. It is both extremely well-written, and extremely challenging. The monsters don’t give up easily, and appear in great number. Don’t be surprised if you are dead within the first few minutes of this surreal trip of a mod. The following video is a great example of just how intense this mod is. If you can make it through this campaign without crying, I applaud you.
Tetris: The Dark Descent by Apjjm If you are anything like me, you are totally over being scared out of your mind. This silly mod by Apjjm provides a reprieve from the scariness that is Amnesia. As the title suggests, this mod allows you to play Tetris in Amnesia. Perhaps the best thing about this mod is the Tetris block mosaic of a grunt that appears when you launch the custom campaign. The mod is a bit frivolous, but I have to give credit where it is due! It is also nice to have the comfort of the classic tinkly version of Korobeiniki after saving and exiting the terrible world of Amnesia.
