Every Monday we’ll bring you a new modification to delight and surprise you that will get the gamer in you pumped and excited to reinstalling that old title. So what better way to kick this off than starting with a remake of a classic title almost every fan played in the late 1990s. GoldenEye Source is a Half Life 2 mod that brings the legendary title’s multiplayer portion up-to-date with the Source engine, online components and additional features from the GoldenEye: Source Team and it’s community.
The team working on GoldenEye: Source are devoted to bringing back the memories and joys from the original by taking the advantages of the technology available today. Along with bringing it back, they have fleshed it out with additional maps, custom skins, new explosive-based weaponry such as the grenade launcher and extra features such as “Rolling Explosions” where explosions defy physics lasting up to four seconds or more, this is where the hilarity will ensue.
GoldenEye: Source has recently exited the beta phase with an extra coat of polish and relatively well-balanced. The modification itself is a prime example of a fan remake done right, and even though it only offers the multiplayer portion – fans are eagerly hoping they will redo the single player campaign. If you loved GoldenEye and always wanted a PC version, you will not be disappointed. While the younger generation may not have experienced the original, it is still a great mod that allows you to see one of the most influential FPS titles of recent history.
